Our Story
Located in Chicago’s River North neighborhood at the iconic Ohio House Motel, Schneider Deli blends both traditional and modern Jewish cuisine in a 21-seat, counter-service delicatessen. Fueled by the Schneiders' love of Jewish food, a longing for old-school delis of the past, and drawing inspiration from the strong Jewish women in their lives who have always cooked with passion and joy, the menu features recipes passed down through generations with a contemporary spin.
Upon meeting over a decade ago through the Chicago hospitality industry, it quickly became clear to both Ariel and Jake that their shared love of food and Jewish values brought them together and it was their destiny to open a deli of their own one day. They started small with the launch of Schneider Provisions in 2022, a pickle passion project, which organically evolved to include deli-style cured meats and fish.
Building upon the momentum of Schneider Provisions, it was time to open a brick-and-mortar spot and make their dreams a reality. Executive chef/owner Jake Schneider (Tovala, Daisies, L20) and Ariel Schneider opened Schneider Deli in August 2023 with the sole purpose of bringing their vision to life, a delicious and nostalgic deli experience that they felt was lacking in Chicago.
Schneider Deli is the culmination of the Schneiders' culinary aspirations. The menu features Jewish deli favorites, including bagels & lox; matzah ball soup; latkes; a variety of hand-sliced, handcrafted sandwiches, including Schneider’s famous corned beef; and more. Schneider Deli partners with local Chicago favorites on special collaborations, including Metropolis Coffee, Once Upon a Bagel, and Pretty Cool Ice Cream.
